WAYS OF BEING: ONGOING PRACTICES + POSSIBILITIES IN THREE WORDS

a print collection to hold us through the ebbs and flows of life and work.

Ways of Being: Ongoing Practices & Possibilities In Three Words was conceived during my time in Oaxaca de Juárez, winter of 2021, as my way to summarize the creative wisdom I learned throughout the year.

I asked myself, “If I could describe the practices and possibilities that continue to shape my life, in three words, what would they be?”

What you’re witnessing is my response to that question. Made to hold us through the ebbs and flows of life and work, each practice and possibility is a gentle reminder, containing its own set of living questions that I’m reflecting upon, in real time, with you.

This is an invitation for us to meditate on the words, colors and textures and notice what rises. The back of each print lives as an open space for whatever comes to have a place to land - thoughts, feelings, sensations, and even creative expressions such as poetry and collage. It’s ours to witness.

A grid of nine dynamic, textural and colorful images that became the print’s backgrounds.

Making space to create this collection amid all that was happening in my life, and the world, has shown how designing well while being well requires so much grace. The grace that I give myself as I move through every day life tasks, shifts, and unexpected transitions have been shaping the way I’ve approached this design and writing process. It gave me permission to iterate and evolve and be open to seeing what else wanted to be created.

Have you ever returned to something you thought you were finished with and the evolutions you made transformed in ways you loved more than before?

Some of the evolutions within this collection have included me adding more layers and texture to the designs, exploring different color combinations, seeing the relationship they share with each other, playing with scale, and doing it all intuitively, trusting my creative decision making by responding to what feels good.

This print collection was a limited edition and one of many gratitude offerings extended to my Patreon community.

Thank you to everyone showing their commitment to financially supporting Black creativity and investing in my creative labor and creative rest.
